Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has officially announced his final 23-man roster for Nigeria’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Rwanda and South Africa next month.
Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, who recently dealt with a minor injury scare during club action, is fit for selection and is expected to start in goal for Nigeria. Backing him up in the squad are Amas Obasogie and Adebayo Adeleye, offering solid depth in the goalkeeping department.
The defense will be marshaled by captain William Ekong, who is joined by familiar faces including Calvin Bassey, Ola Aina, Bright Osayi-Samuel, and Bruno Onyemaechi. Additional support comes from Chidozie Awaziem, Felix Agu, and promising youngster Benjamin Fredericks, ensuring strong coverage at the back.
In midfield, Eric Chelle has selected Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, and Frank Onyeka for their experience and grit, with Raphael Onyedika, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, and emerging Spanish-based prospect Christantus Uche rounding out a balanced midfield lineup.
Attacking options are as potent as ever, with Victor Osimhen leading the line. He is joined by in-form Ademola Lookman (Atalanta BC), Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, Cyriel Dessers, and Toluwalase Arokodare as Nigeria look to secure crucial points on their road to the 2026 World Cup.
The Super Eagles are eager to respond after a run of just one win in their last six games, looking to reignite their campaign with strong performances against their Group C opponents.
Nigeria first welcome the Amavubi of Rwanda to the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Saturday, 6th September. They will then travel to Bloemfontein for a crucial encounter against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana on Tuesday, 9th September.
